Traditional Sivananda Guide
2 minutes
Sivananda Hatha Yoga is a classical yoga practice featuring 12 rounds of sun salutations, followed by 12 foundational postures, and is practiced alongside pranayama and mantra for a full and balanced practice. While it’s not as intense as Ashtanga or as free-flowing as modern Vinyasa, Sivananda Hatha promotes slightly longer holds and is deeply strengthening and intentionally calming. The practice challenges the whole body while settling the nervous system, so when you arrive in the final savasana it really lands. When I usually teach Hatha-Vinyasa, my original training was in the Sivananda tradition with has been an incredible foundation to both my practice both on and off the mat. Follow this short guide to practice Sivananda yoga in your own time.
